Victoria

Over 18 Years of age.
Must be able to read and understand English as the test is only available in English. (Oral test available)
Must be able to provide 100 points of ID.
Must be able to produce photo ID.
In Victoria there are no logbook requirements.
97 questions and answers to be studied of which 52 will be in the Theory test. (All 30 star questions will be in the Theory test and you must get all of these questions correct).

Tasmania

Training & Assessment now part of VET System.
In Tasmania there are no logbook requirements.
Over 18 Years of age and reside in Tasmania.
Must be able to read and understand English as the test is only available in English. (Oral test available)
Have undertaken training under the supervision of a licenced forklift operator or in a forklift specific course.

Queensland

Over 18 Years of age.
Must be able to read and understand English as the test is only available in English. (Oral test available)
Must be able to provide 100 points of ID.
Must be able to produce photo ID.
In Queensland learners must complete 40 hours of supervised training recorded in a logbook before they can be assessed.
Persons under the age of 18 are able to undertake training under the logbook scheme but will not be tested until they have reached the age of 18.
Theory test consists of all 97 questions and answers.
Only Qld residents able to undertake Qld Forklift Licence test.

New South Wales

Must be able to provide 100 points of ID.
Must be able to produce photo ID.
97 questions and answers to be studied of which 52 will be in the Theory test. (All 30 star questions will be in the Theory test).
In NSW and ACT there is a logbook requirement, but there is not a set amount of hours.
There is to be a training and record logbook issued by the RTO confirming that theory training has been undertaken in the workplace or a training facility.
The Assessor that does the training cannot be the Assessor that does Testing.
All applicants need to do a Pre-Assessment prior to their Assessment.

Western Australia

New Licence changes that are renewable every 5 years came into effect in WA on 01st October 2007.
Over 18 Years of age.
Must be able to read and understand English as the test is only available in English. (Oral test available)
Under the new laws it is an offence to permit unauthorised operators to use specified plant (even) under supervision (for purpose of practice or otherwise) unless the operator has been suitably enrolled through a respective RTO for the purpose of obtaining a High Risk Licence.
If a student is found NOT YET COMPETENT to operate the Forklift, they may re-apply twenty-one (21) days after the first assessment. This is a Worksafe WA regulation.

Northern Territory

The Northern Territory will adopt the National Standard for Persons Performing High Risk Work in late June 2010. The Standard covers the licensing, training and assessment of high risk work, including:

  • Scaffolding Work
  • Rigging Work
  • Crane and Hoist Operation
  • Forklift Operation, and
  • Pressure Equipment Operation.

Current licence or certificate of competency holders will have a transitional period to apply and convert to the new licence.

Assessors who are registered with NT WorkSafe will be required to conduct assessments under the Australian Quality Training Framework as part of the adoption of the Standard. The standard will also require assessors to operate in conjunction with a registered training organisation (RTO).
